Rumsey Monument in front of the Rumsey Hall
The Rumsey monument reads:
“Rumsey
“The town of Rumsey was founded in 1887 by the Vaca Valley & Clear Lake Railroad Co. and was named after pioneer landowner Capt. DeWitt C. Rumsey. This spot is the site of Rumsey Hall. Built in 1906 and known for its remarkable original 1910 murals, it is the centerpiece of the community and the only functioning meeting hall on Hwy. 16, west of Woodland.
“Dedicated May 11, 2002, E. Clampus Vitus, New Helvetia Chapter No. 5”
According to the National Register of Historic Places web site, the Rumsey Town Hall located at Manzanita Street in Rumsey, was added to the Register in 1972 as Building #72000265. The period of significance is listed as 1900 to 1924.
