THE VACAVILLE HERITAGE COUNCIL

The Vacaville Heritage Council is a non-profit historical archives and research organization specializing in local and Solano County History. They photograph historic maps, documents and old family photo albums. Information stored in their archives is available for reproduction and use to the public and other organizations.

Their photograph collection is amazing! They have over 6,000 photographs of Solano County, its people, and other areas dating as far back as the 1850s. Negatives are archived for all photographs, and they will reprint any image in their own black-and-white photo lab upon request.

You can view an Index which includes a list and descriptions of some of their photographs in their Main collection online.

Entire photo albums are brought to the Heritage Council and are digitally photographed and a CD is made available to the donor for their own family records. They will also assist with preparation of manuscripts on specific phases of city, county, and statewide history including personal histories of local individuals and families.

They are in the process of scanning all records and photographs in their archives. They have the ability to provide CDs of large groups of photographs and files as they are scanned in. All requests are filled on a donation only basis. You decide what the service is worth to you.

They work closely with all Solano County Museums, historic organizations and the Solano County Genealogy Society. If they don’t have what you are looking for, it’s possible that they may be able to refer you to someone who has the material you seek.

They operate solely on donations and are staffed by volunteers.
