James Monroe PALMER and William Madison PALMER were in the Downieville area hunting for gold. They were from Buncombe Co, NC. James b. 1822, and William b. 1821. In a Petaluma CA write-up, William said the company he worked for in 1849 "changed the course of the Yuba River." James and William weren't successful because the company folded. William came along to the Downieville area about 1852 and then settled in the Placerville area. Any help will be appreciated. (barb@aub.com)
Just started investigating a newly found link in my family to the origin of Beckworth, Sierra Co, CA. My grandmother's written notes lead me to believe that a John JONES and a Peter PRIEST founded the place known as Jones Station until the late 1860s. I believe that John JONES may be my grandmother's grandfather. If so, his daughter Sarah Ann JONES married James Preston DENNY Jr in 1852. I am looking for any reference material on this JONES family. Thank you! (klansing@inreach.com)
I have information on Sinnott/Barrett families and can refer on to McDowell and McGrath information sites. I do not have exact dates in all cases. (cathyro@juno.com)

I have not been able to find information on Forest City in Sierra County. I had relatives who owned the Antelope Saloon, John P. and Rosanna H.(QUINN) ATKINSON, in the late 1850s. The ownership name was under Atkinson and Company, Proprietors. I did see a biography for a John B. ATKINSON, in the book: "Memorial & Biographical History of Northern California." Perhaps he is the same person with an erroneous middle initial?? Thank you for any and all help gathering information on Forest City and on my relatives. Valerie Burrows. (hollyce@aol.com)

I presume John CHATY was a partner and possibly a fellow immigrant from Lorraine France, of Nicolas WEBER, working in Howland Flat, where CHATY is also described as a baker an saloon keeper. Nicolas WEBER married Anna CHATY, possibly a daughter of John CHATY, in Nevada County. There were two CHATY boys who left the area, but the fate of John CHATY is unknown. The eldest of the WEBER children by Anna, a daughter, Anna (WEBER) RAPP, may have been CHATY's. Sierra County sources include the Sierra County Assessment Rolls 1863-64; Deeds 1860, 1878; Thompson & West, p 214; Death 19-243486; and James J. Sinnott, History of Sierra County Vol V, p 37. Any help will be appreciated. (chander@communique.net)
