Ordering Marriage Certificates

Once you have found the date and the exact names for the marriage you are seeking, you may want to obtain a copy of the certificate for more detailed information.

Napa County Recorder-Clerk’s Office

Marriage Certificates can be ordered from the Napa County Recorder for $14.00. You must complete an “Application for Certified Copy” for each request. You can download the application at http://www.countyofnapa.org, search for “application for birth marriage death” and the first item will be what you need. Or, call 707-2543-4247 to request copies to be mailed to you. Although it says application for certified copy (which are restricted to certain categories of relationship and require notarization,) anyone can check the “Informational Copies” box and bypass these requirements. INSTRUCTIONS: Complete a separate application for each type of record requested. All sections must be completed in their entirety. If no record is found, the fee will be retained for searching as required by statute and a “Certificate of No Record” will be issued.

1. This application must be completed prior to conducting a search for the record and no refunds or exchanges will be made once the copy(ies) have been issued. Provide all the information you have available for the identification of the record. If the information you furnish is incomplete or inaccurate, it may be impossible to locate the record.
2. The County Recorder may provide a certified copy of a vital record to an authorized person only. If a requestor does not meet the requirement of an authorized person (as described in Health & Safety Code Section 103526), the County Recorder may only issue an informational certified copy with a legend stating “INFORMATIONAL, NOT A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY.”
