Amelia D. Perry

Amelia D. Perry, a member of a pioneer peninsula family and a native daughter of California, died Wednesday at Community Hospital after a brief illness. She was 81.

Born July 9, 1902, she was a member of the Artellan family and had lived most of her life in Monterey although she was born in Watsonville. Her husband Manuel S. Perry, served for 36 years as Monterey's superintendent of streets. He died in 1963.

Her sister, Margarita Artellan Castro, who died last December, was a regular participant in county fairs, festivals, and parades most of her life, beginning as queen of Monterey's 1914 Fourth of July celebration.

Mrs Perry is survived by her daughter Mrs. Howard Hinkley of Del Rey Oaks; a brother, Sid Artellan of Seaside; three grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited Friday at 7:30 p.m. at El Estero Chapel of Mission Mortuary with a mass of Christian burial on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from San Carlos Cathedral. Entombment will be in Mission Memorial Park.
