Valley Rancher Hook, 78, Dies

Frank A. Hook, Soledad rancher, died Wednesday morning at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 78.

A native of Gonzales Hook was the son of valley pioneers Frank and Mary Hook, who settled in the Gonzales area in 1860. He lived in Soledad for the past 55 years.

Hook worked for the Monterey County Road Department for 32 years, from which he retired 17 years ago.

He is survived by four sons, Irvin Franscioni of Monterey, Frank T. Hook and Albert Hook of Soledad, Dennis Hook of the family home; four daughters, Mary Jansen, Florence Soares, and Gail Roth, all of Soledad, and Jo Pedevilla of Gonzales.

He is also survived by a brother, Tom Hook of Sonoma; and two sisters, Frances Rosa of Gonzales and Elizabeth Armstrong of Salinas. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His wife, Madge, preceded him in death in September of 1972.

Holy Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Terry Mortuary. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Terry Mortuary, followed by burial in the Soledad Cemetery. Rev. Laurence McHugh will officiate.
