Mr. Artellan is known as one of Monterey's most enthusiastic baseball fans, never having missed a game in years, and following the home team when they journeyed to cross bats with teams in nearby towns and even to San Francisco. He encouraged the youngsters in their vacant lot games, often picking out boys who used their skill on full-grown teams many years later.
