You can help!

There are many ways that you can help fellow researchers in their search for Merced County ancestors. I will list a few of them here. Please consider making your information available, as many others have done for you. It feels good to give something back after enjoying the generosity of other helpers. Thank you so much for participating!

This Website

Resource look-up - Do you have a book containing historical information related to Merced county or one its towns? Are you available to photograph tombstones in the county, or look up obituaries in the newspaper archives? E-mail me and let me know what you can do, and I will post it on our web site. Then other researchers will e-mail you asking for your help.

Web site Content - Do you have obituaries or old stories from Merced County that you would like to share? Perhaps you could transcribe all the gravestones in a local cemetery, or even photograph them. We would love to make a page on our web site with your information. Please E-mail me with your info.

Other Sites

Merced Genealogy - You can also give your information to Alma Stone, who will gladly make it available on her web site.

Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK) - you can volunteer to do cemetery or obituary or resource lookups for Merced county (or any county) through this web site. It is a much used and highly regarded genealogy site.

Obituary Lookup Volunteers - hosted by Rootsweb - As its name implies, you can volunteer to lookup obituaries for other researchers.

USGenWeb Archives - you can submit information for posting to the USGenWeb archives, whether a single will or obituary or land record, or a transcription of many records. This page instructs you on how to submit your info.

Find A Grave and Interment.net - allows you to post readings of cemetery gravestones (and even photos at Find A Grave) that are searchable and available for others. These sites have been a great help to me.

Message Boards and Mailing Lists - posting your information to a public message board or mailing list is another great way to make it available to fellow researchers. Look through the recent archives of the boards and mailing list to see if you can answer questions that have already been asked.
