1852-1933; 2nd Sgt., Co. G, Brown County Minute Men, Texas -- Indian Wars; Oak Grove Cemetery; born in Brownsville, Texas; enlisted 1872; wife Annie; came to California by 1900; pension application #10751 filed in 1919 in South Carolina, widow's pension; died in Knights Ferry, California.
Stephen Arnold Douglas Byerly
1861-1913; Co. F, 1 WY Volunteer Infantry, Spanish American War; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in Pennsylvania.
William Griffin
 
1850-1932; Co. D, 20 US Infantry, Indian Wars; Turlock Memorial Park; born in Albany County, New York; he served on the territorial frontier near the Great Lakes and aboard the "Minnesota;" wife Mary; came to Merced County 1908; pension application #6591056 filed on 08/30/1927; widow's pension application filed on 12/19/1932; died near Stevenson, California.

Felix Houch
1824-1900; reportedly a Mexican War veteran; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in Ohio; living in Merced County by 1870; working as a wheelwright; he drowned in the San Joaquin River near Hill's Ferry, California.
James H. Murray
1872-1906; 66 Coast Artillery; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; he was a mechanic's gunner; he was on furlough awaiting his retirement at the Heney Ranch south of Turlock; he had no known family except an aunt in Indiana.
Louis J. Pennington
1861-1899; Spanish American War veteran; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in Delaware.

Charles H. Rabe
1868-1903; Co. F, 84 Infantry; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in Smithfield, Ohio; enlisted at the Presidio, San Francisco and served 2 years in the Philippines; described as dark red hair, grey eyes, scar over right eye, light complexion and red mustache; piano player of much ability, made his living playing in saloons.
Henry Rogers
1828-1895;
Mexican War; Co. C, 2 NY Volunteers; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in New York; came to California by 1849 with 2nd NY; resident of Modesto for 7 years; "much of the artistic work of Modesto was his handiwork."
