A correspont at Requa sends us the following account of the death of
Henry Davis on the Klamath River, 14 miles above Requa last Sat.
It appears thata man named Barger living a half mile south of Davis,
went to the latters home that morning and asked him to go and kill a couple
of panthers, that Barger had heard growling in the woods near where he
was working. Davis called his dog, and taking his rife, went with
Barger to where with Barger to where he had been working; the dog scented
the panthers and wented into the brush while Davis stood ready to
shoot. In a short time the dog ceased barking and came out of the
brush to where to where Davis was standing with his right hand over the
muzzle of the gun. The dog walked up to where he stood and standing
upon his hind feet, put his front feet across Davis's arm, when the gun
was dischasrged, the ball cutting the palm of his right hand, passing upward
and entering the face at the left corner of the mouth and passing into
the brain, causing instant death.
Leonard White, better known as "Elk" White, one of the pioneers of the County died at Smith River last Monday, after a lingering illness of several months. Native of NY where he has relatives residing.

County Cemetery of Del Norte County CA
These records were taken from the following sources: The County
Cemetery, a map of the county cemetery in possession of the DNC Historical
Society, death records in the county recorder of deeds office and Obituaries
out of the local newspapers. The County cemetery is listed by different
names on these records. Pauper's, Poor Farm, County hospital, or
just plain County cemetery. Some place on these records on of these
names appear, we did not assume that if a person died at the county hospital
ore the county's old folks home that they were buried in the county cemetery
because this was not always the case.
The County cemetery is located on Cooper St in Crescent City next to
the county's maintence and firehouse building. Only a few of these
graves are marked. We understand after they ran out of room in that
area they buried a few people in the present IOOF and Masonic Cemeteries
on the hill across the street from the county cemetery. They, also,
cleared land behind Veteran's Cemetery for the county but burials here
a fairly new.
