My great-grandfather, Edwin Franklin (or Franklin Edwin) MAUK, better known as "Frank", and his brother, George Wirt Mauk, were in the Markleeville/Silver Mountain City/Diamond Valley areas in the 1860's. My dad told me that George was the first deputy sheriff of Alpine County for Silver Mountain City. My grandfather, Frank, as a teenager, carried the mail from Silver Mountain City to Markleeville to Woodfords through Diamond Valley in the summers.

George Wirt Mauk married Mary Jane FISK(E) August 7, 1866 in Silver Mountain City. George W. and Mary J. may have married in Dayton, NV - that is what was in the bible. However, their great-great-granddaughter has information that indicates that the marriage took place in Silver Mountain City. I am trying to obtain some documentation in order to verify which of this information is correct.

Great-grandfather told the stories to my dad, who is now deceased. I have his written record of the conversation with his grandfather. As for the marriage, my family had great-grandfather's bible, which had a treasure trove of records of births, deaths, and marriages. The bible is apparently gone, having been misplaced after my dad's death.
