Alameda County Lookups, References, Lists, and Indices and Lookup Volunteers

If you want a lookup in one of the sources listed below, write directly to the volunteer listed. Include enough information (i.e. the Title of the Source) in your request so that the volunteer knows what you're asking for. The chances are that these fine folk volunteer in many places and need to know some specifics.
Please be aware that these offers are for lookup only in the sources specified, not for additional research.
If your mother never told you, I will: words like "please" and "thank you" are seldom out of place. And if someone does you the favor of a lookup, write a note of thanks back.

In some cases, the link will be to a list provided by a volunteer or a source on the web and you can do your own lookup

Please note: Lookups will be done in a manner so as not to violate copyright laws. The short version of that is: if the work is not in the public domain (generally, published before 1925), the information conveyed in a "lookup" will be minimal, conveying the basic facts, but not copying the text verbatim. Please do not ask the lookup volunteer to provide photocopies.

Statewide of Interest

The NorCal Library features lookups in many yearbooks and histories. You should check it out at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/norcallib.html

Golden Nugget Library A site that keeps growing with lists of pioneeers, stockholders, state fair awards, and almost anything that may be of interest to genealogists. A searchable database is available. See web site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~npmelton/

General

Books We Own This is a volunteer, web-based listing of genealogy books in many various categories (including a state listing of resources). Owners of genealogy related books volunteer to do lookups--just like here, but on a bigger scale. See web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~bwo.

This page is always under development. If you own any Alameda County reference books and are willing to do lookups, please let me know. E-mail me with the title of the book, author, publication date, Your name, and Your e-mail address. The list will be set up so that interested people can e-mail you directly.

A quick reminder on sources, and the uses thereof: The National Genealogical Society reminds us that copies of sources are subject to the mishaps of typing and transcription. You probably already knew that, but if not, you might want to see their full statement at http://www.rootsweb .com/~usgenweb/ngsstate.htm.
